10 Ways To LOVE Your Body

At Fortius Physiotherapy, we feel it is important for everyone to know how to LOVE themselves. Loving your body is an important aspect of overall well-being. Here Tania Mannella, DPT gives us 10 ways to cultivate self-love and appreciation for your body:

1) Practice Positive Self-Talk:

Be mindful of the way you talk to yourself. Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Focus on what your body can do and the unique qualities that make you who you are.

2) Celebrate Achievements, Not Just Appearance:

Feed your body with a balanced and nutritious diet. Choose foods that make you feel good physically and mentally, and remember that food is a source of nourishment, not punishment.

3) Nourish Your Body with Healthy Foods:

Find physical activities that bring you joy and make you feel good rather than focusing solely on exercise for weight management. Whether it’s dancing, hiking, or playing a sport, enjoy movement for the pleasure it brings.

4) Engage in Physical Activity for Joy, Not Just Fitness:

Be mindful of the media and people you follow. Surround yourself with positive influences that promote body positivity and self-love. Unfollow or mute content that makes you feel negatively about your body.

5) Surround Yourself with Positive Influences:

Take time for self-care activities that make you feel pampered and cared for. This could include a warm bath, a relaxing massage, or simply setting aside time to do something you love.

6) Practice Self-Care:

Choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Dressing in a way that makes you happy can boost your self-esteem and body image.

7) Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Confident:

Be critical of societal beauty standards and challenge them. Recognize that beauty comes in diverse forms, and everyone’s body is unique. Embrace your individuality.

8) Challenge Unrealistic Beauty Standards:

Shift your focus from the number on the scale to your overall health and well-being. Prioritize habits that contribute to your physical and mental health rather than pursuing a specific body weight.

9) Focus on Health, Not Weight:

Cultivate gratitude for your body and its capabilities. Focus on what your body allows you to do each day, whether it’s walking, experiencing the world, or engaging in activities you love.

10) Practice Gratitude:

Remember, self-love is a continuous journey, and it’s okay to have days where you may struggle. Be patient with yourself and celebrate the progress you make in embracing and loving your body. If you find it  challenging, seeking support from friends, family, or a mental health professional can be beneficial.
