What Does Sport Therapy Involve?

The physiotherapist will use specialized manual therapy and prescribed tailored exercise and functional movement patterns that are related to your sport and everyday life. They may also utilize taping techniques and modalities to increase blood flow, reduce pain and inflammation to speed up recovery.

What To Expect On Your First Sport Therapy Visit

You will need to fill out an intake form to give your practitioner a health history. The physiotherapist will then bring you into a treatment room to discuss your injury and sporting activity. They will perform a physical evaluation to determine diagnosis and form a treatment plan. Make sure to wear athletic clothes to your appointment as the physiotherapist might have you perform movement patterns related to your sport. You will leave the appointment with information on strategies to speed recovery at home and an exercise program to start with.
