What is TMD?

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is the condition involving pain and discomfort with the movement and function of the jaw bones, muscles and tissues.

Physiotherapy can help treat TMD by reducing pain and inflammation in the joint. It will help to improve the movement and function of your TMJ (Temporomandibular joint). What Are Some Symptoms Of TMD?

  • Difficulty chewing and swallowing due to soreness in the jaw
  • Pain in your ear, neck, head
  • Pain in either side of your face
  • Difficulty moving the jaw, even while speaking
  • Jaw feels “locked”, making it hard to open or close the mouth
  • Tenderness and ache in your facial region
  • Clicking, grinding, clenching of the jaw
