Your lower back pain can be the result of many different things. The pain could be attributed to overuse, muscle strain, and/or injuries to the muscles, ligament and discs that support the spine. Injuries left untreated can lead to muscle imbalances of the spine. This will make the back more prone to injury or re-injury.
If you have had back pain for longer than 1-2 weeks, I would advise seeking a health professional such as a physiotherapist or chiropractor that can diagnose the problem and explain what has been injured and guide you on a treatment plan that will help restore balance in the spine.
Exercises for lower back pain concentrate on strengthening with abdominal muscles, to give stabilization to the spine. Rehabilitation programs or even prevention programs with your Physiotherapist or Kinesiologist will focus on strengthening your lumbar spine muscles combined with core stability and proprioception. Proprioception is your body’s ability to perceive where it is in space (position and motion) Eg: throwing a ball without having to look at your arm. By doing these exercises on a regular basis and properly will help combat back pain and ward it off.
